Bolero

Our first day in Lucerne found us pretty tired since we had flown overnight, driven in rush hour traffic from Zurich to Lucerne and then walked around Old Town Lucerne exploring some of the tourist sites.   Needless to say we were pretty exhausted so we chose to have dinner in the little corner restaurant next to the Hotel Cascada, Bolero.

The corner restaurant Bolero

The restaurant was deserted when we went inside, usually not a good sign,  but we decided what the heck, we're tired and hungry. What a fortuitous decision that turned out to be.  Bread and a small appetizer were promptly brought to the table with our wine,  We ordered the special on the front of the menu which was a Pasta, Shrimp and Cheese Flambe' for two.

We were both delighted and astounded when our server rolled a large wheel of cheese out to our table.  He poured alcohol into the cheese wheel and lit it.  What a show. He had a bowl of pasta and a bowl of shrimp on the table which had been previously prepared in the kitchen.  He poured the contents of each into the cheese and cooked it further tableside, mixing the now melting cheese into the pasta.  This was incredibly good.  Welcome to Switzerland!

As we enjoyed our dinner and the wine we noticed there were other flaming dishes served to surrounding tables such as the lamb skewers flamed in the following photo.
