Touring the Valley

We took a short walk in the Lauterbrunnen Valley exploring the waterfalls, shops and gardens.  We found a small cheese shop and stopped in to pick out some cheese and a bottle of local wine.  The owner was quite helpful and Libbie knew the Terminology from our visit to Glarus, Switzerland where a lot of cheese is made.  She knew the vintage and mountain for our cheese.  The wine is hit or miss.  The owner recommended a nice dry local wine which turned out to be quite good.

Our selections

Back on the garden patio of our room we had our afternoon wine and cheese while checking eMail and catching up with the rest of the world.

We later set out to explore the rest of the valley.  A short distance from our hotel is the Staubbach  Falls which is a beautiful tall waterfalls that originates somewhere high in the clifftops before plunging down into the valley.  There was an Italian film crew there filming a documentary with a pretty model and a drone.  It was the first time I have seen a drone doing filming up close and personal. This was quite an entertaining show.  The opening appears to be the model talking to the drone at her eye level.  Then the machine flies high up the face of the Falls.  It must have been visually interesting to view the final result.

Switzerland is a country of many languages.  Who would believe that in the middle of the Lauterbrunnen Valley we would find a sign for Swiss Food in Chinese?

Geraniums decorate almost every building in Switzerland.  We wondered where all the flowers came from and discovered a small nursery in the valley.

Cemeteries are quite unusual.. Each of these graves appears to be maintained complete with landscaping and flowers.  We're not sure who does this and what the tradition is.
