The Vienna State Opera is one of the premiere opera houses in the world. We bought tickets in February for a June performance of Don Quixote and the ballet La Sylphide. The Orchestra of course is the Vienna Philharmonic. The performance started at 8 PM and the dress is unbelievably over the top dressy with ladies wearing elbow length gloves and the gentlemen in tuxedos. I had a light gray suit which I assumed would be a summer suit but at the Vienna black suits and tuxes ruled the night. Wow.
